Dear Christians, (Pt.3)

Christianity does not start and end in the church on Sunday morning. Being Christ-like should be part of you; embody Christ especially in your daily interactions with people.

We act the sweetest and ‘bless you sister, bless you brother’, but in our workplaces and public spaces, we exhibit characters that make people wonder if we are truly Christians that we claim to be.

We oppress our workers, inflate finance, lie and backbite yet we lift up ‘holy hands’ in the sanctuary. Our names are never mentioned in the same sentence with love, honesty and humility. We are the first to say, ‘Do you know who I am?’.

If our heavenly Father did as we do, the case would be different; He didn’t, so why do you? A new week unfolds with possibilities and life. Remember Matthew 7:12 in your dealings with people: Do to others what you would have them do to you.

Abuja’s First Praise Rave

He called, I answered… Abuja’s No.1 Gospel DJ, DJ Ernesty, said to me, “Edima, I’m organising the first ever ‘Praise Rave’ and I’d like you to host the interview segment”. I could never say no to a man who has distinguished himself in the Christiandom and paved way for gospel DJing in Nigeria; a career spanning over 10 years. I certainly had to do this and it was totally awesome!

Dear Christians, (Pt.2)

I come to thee this day, not to judge but to appeal and remind thee to show an act of kindness. I have a bone to pick with thee because thou art not walking in this path I speak of.

Hear ye this day that thou shalt be nice to the inhabitants of the Earth just like Christ is, giving His all selflessly so thou mayest be rich.

Thou shouldst consider reaching out to people and making it a habit without waiting for Christmas. If I mayest suggest, thou can call people just to say hello or check on them, for a storm rages in the heart and household of many.

Thou can squeeze a tiny seed of love offering into the hand of people. Lookest around thee for thou shall see; some clothe their misery, hurt or pain and wear a smile on their face. So brethren, I urge thee to look deeper and let the Holy Spirit showest ye who to help for they are among thee.

Thou can hug with reassuring words of comfort, and smile often at people. Thou can offer food, clothing or shelter if thou can afford these.

By all means, thou must do better, be better and act better. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Send-forth from Cool FM Abuja

After six years on radio, I graciously took a bow from broadcast media as an On Air Personality (OAP). During my time with the biggest media brand in Nigeria, ‘Cool Wazobia Info FMs’, I hosted the Good Morning Nigeria Show, the Road Show and the Saturday Night Show, all of which had very high show ratings. On this platform, I conducted several high profile interviews, attended every important event in Abuja and best of all, impacted millions of lives. I’m popularly asked, ‘Will you ever be on radio again?’… Well, never say never. *wink*

Dear Christians, (Pt.1)

The year usually unfolds with a fast, re-dedication and re-commitment to God. Lots of goal setting, vision alignment, resolutions and spiritual awakening.

Let’s talk about the fast. Most places of worship have set periods and lengths for fasting including time to break the fast.

Do you. Do what your body can carry. It is not a competition of who can fast longer neither is there a prize for who did dry fasting and who drank liquid.

Let your heart be pure and your mind renewed for the God who sees in secret will reward you in the open.

More grace to be Christ-like in your dealings this year.

THE TWILIGHT AND THE DAWN

Welcome. You can call me Charles, even though that is not my name. I have pleaded with Edima to permit me to write on this platform, and she has finally agreed. Whew. Can you believe that? So, as the previous year has ended, I have a new beginning as a guest writer in Edima’s online home. I don’t live here actually, Edima has permitted me to visit and drop a few thoughts. Believe me, it is a great privilege. So, if you do not see me again, just know this, my thoughts were not good enough.

There is not much to know in the “about me” section. I am male and I have a partner and children, I work for someone else and I am a Christian. So, when I write, you can understand my stereotype and biases. I have lived with them all my life, so forgive me if you notice any.

They say, “time and tide wait for no man (including women)” or better still, ‘time and tide wait for no person’. What does this really mean? As an English saying, it means that time is constantly moving and we should make the best of it as it will not wait for you. This is instructive for people like us, who are chronic procrastinators. Perhaps it is because of people like me that time is divided into seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years and on and on, so we can learn to number them and know when we have wasted time that we can never get back. Once time is gone, it is gone forever; we cannot turn back the time.

Some of you can relate. When you saw that girl, looking like a million-dollar diamond and you thought so much about what to say and time went by. Finally, when you figured your best pickup line and looked up, there was a guy standing beside her and he never stepped away until you left the club. Or the time the guy asked you to marry him and you did not answer, not even a “NO”. When you finally decided someone already married him. My point is not to blame anyone for waiting to take a decision because I understand that there are lots of factors to consider but make time also a factor because although it is fleeting, it is still one of the most valuable resources we have to work with.

The year 2020 has reached its twilight and 2021 is here. The dawn of another year has emerged, and no one knows what it would bring. So, we have most likely rounded-up our assessment of the goals we set to achieve in 2020 and are planning for new ones to start in 2021. For a lot of us, the end of 2020 couldn’t have come sooner. With the COVID-19 Pandemic, the End SARS protests, increase of fuel prices, the continued killings and kidnappings all over the country and lots more. Again, in this year, Nigerian-Irish teens develop an app for people living with dementia, Africa was declared polio free, among others, but good news does not sell as much as bad ones.

Anyway, my question is: Will COVID-19 end in 2020 twilight? I do not think so. I am sure COVID-19 will continue to assault us well into 2021. It has been around since 2019. So will other issues, and so will most of us. Then why do we need to pause and restart at every twilight and dawn? Why not continue? Why do we need to switch off uncompleted dreams and start all over again? Why do we think that if we could not do it in 365 days, we can do it in another period of 365 days?

I think time is a continuum divided into markers to guide us on how to spend it. Just because a year is ending does not mean we should abandon the momentum we have built for our dreams and start all over again next year. In fact, we can rather spend the twilight re-strategizing on how to deliver on our dreams and objectives based on the lessons we have learnt over the previous period. This is one of those times where failure does not mean repeating. Rather, we re-engineer and focus on our capacity and capability to build on previous efforts and reach for the skies.

This is wishing you a prosperous new year in 2021.

THIS YEAR IS YOUR YEAR

Cross Over Service, ‘Mad Oh!’, prophecies, declarations, feet washing, anointing, visions, loud Amens.

PASTOR: This year is your year! Claim it!

CONGREGATION: Amen.

PASTOR: I can’t hear you. I said if this year is your year, shout Amen three times!

CONGREGATION: Amen, amen, amen!!!

ME: *smiles*

Last year, I believe was your year. Last two years was still your year same as the years gone by. What did you do differently? Were the years truly your years? Yes? Good for you! No? What happened?

Pastor is right. This year is your year but if you don’t consciously take action, those words are empty. It’s more than the amens and the faiths for faith without works is dead.

No new year resolution? That’s OK but set goals, targets and have an action plan. Set timelines, checks and rewards for when you achieve.

It goes beyond the 31st and 1st of a new year. Let everyday be your day, every hour be your hour, every minute be your minute and every second, your second.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Mad Oh: An expression of surprise, shock or astonishment often caused by something unexpected or mind blowing. It can be used as an adjective in some cases. (Urban Dictionary).
