THE SILENCE IN THE DISTANCE

I hear the silence in the distance

It beckons to the deep in me, urging me to pay attention

To focus on the calmness of the waters as the sun sets.

It beckons to the deep in me, urging me to let go of the hurt and pain

To focus on the wins and joys that it gives.

I hear the silence in the distance

Quiet yet speaks volumes in the calmness of the waters

In the light of the setting sun…

A gradual fade into the distance far.

I hear the silence in the distance

For it holds many memories

Of light, love, hope and sacrifice.

For as the sky descends in the distance far, so is the loud silence in the distance far.

WHAT IF…

What if the world wasn’t made
What if the Earth wasn’t formed
What if there were no planets
What if the sun never shone

What if man wasn’t made
What if the woman wasn’t formed
What if there were no children
What if humans never existed

What if steel wasn’t made
What if the diamond wasn’t formed
What if there were no sapphires
What if precious stones never existed

What if love wasn’t made
What if hatred wasn’t formed
What if there were no emotions

Would you still love me?

A WALK

Let’s take a walk my dear

Far from the crowd of impossible fear

Fear of love; fear of trust and oh the fear of tears.

But I will hold you close my love

Your hands inter-twined in mine

A sweet flow of harmony

Unblemished by our pure mind

I don’t care what the world thinks

I don’t care what the world brings

All I care about is you

All I want is you.

Let’s take a walk my dear

Far from the crowd of impossible fear

IT’S IN YOU

You have what it takes to be a better person.

You have what it takes to complete your tasks and achieve your goals.

You have what it takes to help someone.

You have what it takes to give and expect nothing in return.

You have what it takes to love and love again.

You have what it takes to forgive when hurt.

You have what it takes to sacrifice in order to save someone.

You have what it takes to curb the words that flow from your mouth.

You have what it takes to be a leader.

You have what it takes to be a follower.

You have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

You have what it takes to manage a business.

You have what it takes to better your country.

You have what it takes to be independent.

You have what it takes to give justice a chance.

You have what it takes to win your right.

You have all the above and much more because what it takes, IT’S IN YOU.

DARK NIGHTS

On cold dark nights,

when the stars refuse to shine and the moon hides its face;

the crickets chirp and the frogs croak

On cold dark nights,

when the wind is calm and the air refuses to blow hot;

the owls hoot and the dogs bark

On cold dark nights,

when the brook is still and the fishes are asleep;

the grasshoppers chirp and the cock crows

On cold dark nights,

when rats squeak and mosquitoes whine;

the cousin snores and the uncle grunts…

I’m awake praying for day to break.

LIKE A PERIDOT

You are rare and there is none that can replace you.

You are vibrant, ever bursting with life and love.

You are balanced with patience and clarity of thought.

Your past though laden with fear and challenges,

will fade into the breaking light.

You will increase your self-esteem

and let go of guilt stemmed from past experiences.

You bring luck to those around you

And evoke positive energy to ward off darkness.

With your sight, the world is not afraid of the future;

staring distinctly into the Milky Way.

You provide a shield and many who run under your wings are safe.

You are as green as the fertile lands; blooming at the birth of the rains.

You are an evening Emerald, softer in looks but heavy in weight.

Like a Peridot, you are all of these; only better…because you are human and you are unique.

IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES

You are afraid of death and so are you. The mere mention of the word ‘death’ sends chills down your spine let alone the horrified look on your face each time someone you know passes on or you stumble upon some gory image on social media. The newspapers are not any better; right there on the front pages.

You are afraid of death and so are you. That fear of the unknown, that uncertainty about what’s on the other side. This by far is more consuming than anything you can imagine, or so you think.

You are afraid of death and so are you but have you ever wondered why you are afraid of death? Is it because your lifestyle is questionable, you find yourself doing what you ought not to be doing? OR you’re putting up an act the world expects to see while behind closed doors you’re a she wolf? OR you are doing less than what you’re meant to be doing, just afraid for fear sake? OR you don’t even know why you’re scared?

You are afraid of death and so are you but let me tell you a truth so pure. Whether you’re afraid or not, what will be will be and what won’t be won’t be so why not put fear aside and live your life putting in all you have?

Do you know that death lies in tomorrow? Every new second and minute is a step closer to tomorrow, every new hour and day is a step closer to tomorrow? Do you also know that life lies in tomorrow? It also lies in every second, minute, hour and day?

Why not live today putting fear of death aside? Why not live today like tomorrow may never come? Eventually if tomorrow never comes, you can be proud that you lived today. Let it be that if tomorrow never comes, you’ve loved today, helped today, been happy today and enjoyed moments today for life is beautiful and you can live it only once.

I want to walk home with companionship

I just want to walk home… With You.

MAYBE…

Maybe if there was a day after Sunday, I’ll look forward to work on Monday.

Maybe if there were 48 hours in a day, I’ll make 12 profitable.

Maybe if 1,000 days made a year, I’ll sleep through 500.

Maybe if we had more rain than sun in Northern Nigeria, I’ll be a farmer.

Maybe if I were born a man, I’ll tell a woman to propose to me (#feminism)

Maybe if I was born a woman, I’ll pay the bills and house my man.

Maybe if I had a daughter, I’ll name her ‘Future’.

Maybe if I had a son, I’ll name him ‘Tomorrow’.

Maybe if I had friends, I’ll go out more often.

Maybe if I had no friends. I’ll spend less time and less money.

Maybe if I had a job, I’ll wish I could sleep back when my alarm rings.

Maybe if I had no job, I’ll fast and pray for favor from above.

Maybe if I stop wishing, I’ll stay more focused and live happier.

Maybe if I appreciate the things I have, I’ll be more driven to work for tomorrow.

Maybe if I stop complaining, I’ll love me better and love you better.

So it matters not if it’s 24 hours in a day or 365(6) days in a year OR rain falls and sun shines OR I am man/woman OR I have a daughter/son OR friends and a job/no job; what matters is ME: I’m here now and so are you. Make each day count.

IT’S JUST YOU AND ME

Lie in my arms dear one let us ponder on our love

Lie in my arms dear one let us reflect on our love.

Our love like the rivers of Babylon,

running with grace yet full of sorrow and tears.

Lie in my arms dear one let us think of our yesterday

Lie in my arms dear one let us go back in time.

In time when our love was like blooming Hibiscus,

flourishing with bright colors yet fading at sunset.

Lie in my arms dear one let us talk about our today

Lie in my arms dear one let us plan our present.

Our present like the fine China ware,

sparkling when washed and shun

Yet shattering when carelessly dropped.

Lie in my arms dear one let us look into our future

Lie in my arms dear one let us face tomorrow.

Tomorrow like the pregnant woman,

joyful at the thought of new life

yet agonized when delivery comes.

Lie in my arms dear one for it is just you and me.
