DARK NIGHTS

On cold dark nights,

when the stars refuse to shine and the moon hides its face;

the crickets chirp and the frogs croak

On cold dark nights,

when the wind is calm and the air refuses to blow hot;

the owls hoot and the dogs bark

On cold dark nights,

when the brook is still and the fishes are asleep;

the grasshoppers chirp and the cock crows

On cold dark nights,

when rats squeak and mosquitoes whine;

the cousin snores and the uncle grunts…

I’m awake praying for day to break.
